I’m proud to announce my candidacy for ANC Ward 5D02.
Why vote for Pete Loftus?
First of all, you will have an Ivy City resident with family history and sweat equity in the Ward 5D02 community. With my grandparents’ graves located at the historic Mount Olivet Cemetery here in Ivy City—less than three hundred yards from where I reside and work—I have a permanent reminder of my heritage and a daily motivation to improve our neighborhood.
Because of my previous career experience, unique talents, and creative mind, the community will have someone who supports and encourages local artists and intends to expand community arts programs—an ANC commissioner who will demand more love and recognition for our neighborhoods from our City Council and the Government of the District of Columbia.
I am also very concerned about public safety and have established positive relationships with Ward 5 DCMPD commanding officers, patrol officers, and detectives for over a decade, as well as with our local fire department and DCRA.
As a longtime Ivy City business leader and neighbor, I’m committed to:
• Bringing more arts, youth theater, and cultural programming to our community
• Strengthening public safety awareness through collaboration with Ward 5 DCMPD
• Attracting responsible new businesses that serve residents and create jobs
• Maintaining cooperative, transparent relationships between neighbors, police, and local leaders
• Creating Ivy City history coloring books and youth programs so our children grow up proud of where they live.
I believe strong neighborhoods are built through partnership, positivity, and action.
Let’s move Ward 5D02 forward — together.
— Pete Loftus
I am motivated to bringing more green space to our neighborhood. Lewis Crowe Park deserves more love from the District. On my watch we will not tolerate hard drugs being sold or used in the park. But this doesn't mean we turn our backs on those suffering from addiction. I'm focused on helping addicts find the resources they need to get off the streets and live healthy lives.

Lead by example: As an Ivy City resident where my grandparents also once lived, I believe we can do a better job by preventing litter plaguing our streets. Organized clean ups are a great way for the community to come together and help set an example for kids who live here to take pride in their neighborhood. But we also need more trash and recycling bins in Ward 5D02 as well as more budget from City Council to hire staff to help maintain and organize.
